DabJaoram History History of the Jao Ram Sword Style (Daab Jao Ram) and the Jao Ram Sword and Self-Defense Club, Thai Weapons Department. The Jao Ram Sword Style began around 1971 (B.E. 2514) when students from various sword schools from across Thailand traveled to study at Ramkhamhaeng University, which had first opened that year. These students - who were interested in training together in martial arts and self-defense, including swords, staffs, elbows, daggers, and Muay Thai - came together to organize historical dramas on campus. Later, they organised various teaching activities to subsequent generations of students, such as training in Thai weapons, Muay Thai, judo, taekwondo, and international swordsmanship. Out of these exchanges and activities, the Jao Ram school of Thai swordsmanship developed. The Jao Ram Sword Style is a distinctive style of traditional Thai fighting. It is known for its powerful, aggressive, yet fluid attacks. It excels at both offensive and defensive tactics, with strong defense and control that emphasizes close combat. Furthermore, the Three Pillars principle along with complex and agile footwork fosters nimble and agile skills in both offensive and defensive tactics. The Jao Ram Sword and Weapons Department also included the traditional Thai boxing style, Muay Chaiya. Muay Chaiya has been disseminated and demonstrated to various government and private organizations over the past 40 years
