After all, the kingdom in Southeast Asia is one of the most visited countries in the world. And for good reason. Beautiful landscapes, sun-drenched beaches and an energetic culture promise a great experience.
The national sport of the Land of Smiles is also very popular at the moment: Muay Thai, or Thai boxing. The toughest martial art in the world goes hand in hand with effective fitness training. One that can be perfectly combined with your next family vacation.
Alongside Bangkok, Pattaya is one of the most diverse cities in the country. There are events and performances all year round. Water sports enthusiasts show off their skills on the beaches. Pattaya is home to some of the best Muay Thai training gyms around. World-renowned martial arts outfitters and fighters have put down roots in this buzzing city - and we will introduce you to three of them in this guide. Attractions & activities in Pattaya
Pattaya is a popular resort town on the Gulf of Thailand, just a two-hour drive southeast of Bangkok. The city offers a lot of attractions and activities. In recent years, the local authorities have improved the quality of the beaches and reinvented Pattaya as a family-friendly destination. The world-famous vibrant nightlife is still there, even after the pandemic. Culture buffs are also well catered for, as the region is home to a number of impressive temples and museums. We will now introduce you to the highlights of the sights.
Pattaya Beach:
3 km long and the highlight of the Thai city. Sun worshiping and water sports during the day, a colorful party area at night. Recently named the twelfth best beach in the world by BeachAtlas due to its party & lifestyle, community and cultural significance.
Hotel resorts, shopping malls and street vendors line the sunny Pattaya Beach.
Walking Street:
Located just south of Pattaya Beach this road comes alive around midnight. Plenty to experience in the vibrant red light district with its many bars, restaurants and neon signs.
Phra Tamnak Hill:
Also called Big Buddha Hill or simply Pattaya Hill. The (almost) 100 meters high peak in southern Pattaya is surrounded by many beaches. You can climb the beautiful staircase of Wat Phra Yai, known as Big Buddha Temple. At the top you can admire a 18 meter tall monumental Buddha statue. Catch breathtaking views of the surrounding Pattaya and Jomtien Beach during sunset. The sun-protected Chaloem Phrakiat Park is popular among joggers. The Pattaya City sign is another awesome viewpoint, reachable by foot.
From the top of Pattaya Hill there are many great views of the surrounding beach promenades.
Jomtien Beach:
On the other side of the Pattaya coastline and not as highly frequented as Pattaya Beach. Still plenty of accommodation, street stalls and sports activities. At dusk you can stroll through the Jomtien Night Market, centrally located on the beach promenade.
Sanctuary of Truth:
Gigantic wooden temple with thousands of hand-carved figures. Combines elements of Buddhism, Hinduism and Thai culture.
The Sanctuary of Truth is the largest wooden castle in the world. The hand-carved structure, which serves as a temple and museum, impresses with its countless decorations and sculptures.
Ramayana Waterpark & Pattaya Water Park:
Need to cool down? Water slides and paddling pools promise wet fun for the whole family.
Alcazar Cabaret Show & Tiffany’s Show:
In the evening, they perform world-famous dance shows with colorful costumes and high-tech lighting effects.
Runway Street Food:
Feast at the numerous food stalls offering traditional Thai street food. The market is located around a discarded Boeing 747. This is definitely a unique dining experience.
Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden:
Huge theme gardens with walking and cycling paths, performances, rides and a restaurant.
Khao Chi Chan Buddha:
Also called Buddha Mountain Pattaya. A 130-meter-high engraving of the Buddha filled with gold leaf.
The golden Buddha image of Khao Chi Chan was created in 1996 to commemorate the reign of King Rama IX and is the largest carved Buddha image in the world.
Viharn Sien:
Officially called Anek Kusala Sala. A relatively unknown temple for fans of Chinese culture. It houses many exhibits and monuments, such as Buddha statues and replicas of the terracotta army.
Pattaya Elephant Sanctuary:
Watch elephants rescued from captivity enjoy their well-earned retirement. The sanctuary meets Tripadvisor animal welfare guidelines.
J-Park Nihon Mura:

Sanook Park:
The place in Pattaya for all extreme sports enthusiasts and those who want to become one. Do you dare to do a bungee jump or a human slingshot? You can also let off steam with paintball or a go-kart race.
For many, the nightlife in Pattaya remains unbeaten in Thailand. Throughout the year, there are countless events to keep you entertained during your stay.
If you ever get tired of the vibrant city life or crave pristine beaches, an island escape is the way to go. There are some beautiful islands in the ocean around Pattaya. Easy to reach, they make for the perfect day trip. You can also extend the journey to one or two nights. Info: There is no standardized romanization of the Thai language. That’s why you will often find different spellings for sights and islands on the internet. However, they all refer to the same destination. Here are our three favorites in the Gulf of Thailand:
Ko Lan:
Also called Koh Larn or Coral Island, a small island that can be reached in around 30 minutes from Bali Hai Pier at Pattaya Beach. It offers picturesque beaches with coral reefs and dense jungles inhabited by monkeys with great viewpoints. The two main beaches, Tawaen Beach and Samae Beach, offer numerous opportunities for water sports and relaxed resorts. Your trip to the paradisiacal island is best done during the week, since it’s popular with local tourists on the weekend. In the mornings and evenings you can relax on the less crowded beaches, such as Nual Beach and Tien Beach.
Ko Khram Yai & Ko Samae San:
Two islands located further south in the Gulf of Thailand. Under nature conservation by the Thai navy and are therefore uninhabited. It is not possible to travel there privately. A one-day trip organized by a tour operator in Pattaya is a good option. There is enough time to see all the beautiful places on the islands. Both promise picturesque views, white-sand beaches, and turquoise crystal clear waters. You can enjoy a range of activities on the islands, including swimming, snorkeling, and fishing. Overall, Khram Yai and Samae San islands are must-visit destinations if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Pattaya City. After an exhausting session in one of our Muay Thai training camps, enjoy a well-deserved day of relaxation and adventure in a stunning natural setting.
